Debbie is the Treasurer, Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary of Bridgeway Funds, Inc. She has over thirteen years experience in mutual fund operations, compliance and accounting. Debbie holds a B.A. in accounting, is a CPA in the state of Texas and has 10+ years’ prior experience in public accounting, auditing financial services companies, including mutual funds. Debbie values giving back to the community, having served on several nonprofit organizations’ board of directors and finance committees.

Stephanie Rocco, CPA

A member of BKD National Financial Services Group, Stephanie has more than nine years of experience providing audit and consulting services to financial services companies. This experience includes developing internal audit programs and systems, FDICIA internal control structure implementations and reviews, and consulting services and external audits for financial service companies and investment funds.

 

Over the last several years, she has been the Houston office ACL Champion and chaired the ACL Committee which implemented data mining solutions for BKD audit teams. She has served on the National Innovation Committee including a specialized audit subcommittee, the National FDICA task force, and the National Asset Management Subcommittee. She also currently serves as the Houston office Parental Leave Coordinator. She has assisted with several firmwide trainings, including Camp BKD and Financial Services In-charge Training.

 

Stephanie is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and TXCPA and a former chair of the Financial Women in Texas program.

 

She is a 2010 summa cum laude graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, with a B.A. degree in accounting, and a 2011 graduate of Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, with an M.Acc. degree. Debbie Scanlon

Debbie is the regional industry leader for BKD National Financial Services Group in BKD’s South Region.  She has more than 29 years of experience providing audit and consulting services to a variety of financial institutions, broker-dealers, investment advisory firms and funds. 

In addition to providing audit and attestation services to financial institutions, her experience includes SOX implementations, FDICIA internal control structure designs and reviews, regulatory compliance functions, mergers and acquisitions engagements and developing internal audit programs and systems.  Debbie educates boards and audit committees related to fiduciary responsibilities and trains financial accounting personnel and management teams in many types of financial organizations.

Debbie is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She serves on the AICPA Investment Companies Expert Panel.  In addition, she actively participates in the Texas Bankers Association, Subchapter S Bank Association, Inc. and Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT).  She is a prior board member of the IBAT Leadership Division and is a past president of the board of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston, Texas Affiliate.  Debbie also is the recipient of IBAT’s 2017 Excellence in Leadership Award and 2013 IBAT President’s Award. 

She is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, with a B.S. degree in accounting.

Brian Matlock

Brian Matlock is the leader of BKD National Energy & Natural Resources Practice and is based in the firm’s Dallas office. He has significant experience with audit, accounting and compliance matters related to energy private equity funds and private-equity backed energy portfolio companies. This includes upstream oil and natural gas, midstream oil and natural gas, downstream oil and natural gas, power generation and utilities, oilfield services, energy industrial companies, alternative energy, oil and gas participation funds, oil and gas royalty funds and master limited partnerships funds.

 

Prior to joining BKD, Brian was an alternative investment partner with an international accounting firm, focusing on energy and natural resource investment funds.

 

He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Brian is very active in the energy industry. He is a former chairman of the North American Petroleum Accounting Conference, has served as a board member of the Institute of Petroleum Accounting since 2012 and is a member of various local and regional energy and petroleum associations.

 

In 2013 Brian was selected by the Dallas Business Journal to their Who's Who in Energy, in 2015 he was selected to the AICPA Oil and Gas Revenue Recognition Task Force, and in 2018 he was selected to the 40 Under 40 by Oil and Gas Investor Magazine.

 

Brian is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree in accounting and management information systems.

Howard Hong

Howard is a member of BKD’s Dallas office audit team. He has more than 11 years of assurance experience in both public and private companies, primarily focusing on oil and gas and energy funds.

 

Prior to joining the BKD team, he served as a controller at a $1 billion upstream oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Dallas which is backed by a prominent private equity group. Before that, he was an audit senior manager at other large national CPA firms in Dallas. His focus was assurance in oil and gas and private equity funds.

 

Howard is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also actively involved in Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS) and is a vice chair of the small oil and gas committee.

 

He is a graduate of The University of Texas at Dallas with a master of science degree in accounting, and a graduate of Jinan University, Guangdong, China, with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. Howard is fluent in Chinese—both Mandarin and Cantonese.

Sal Shah

Sal has more than 25 years of experience serving a full spectrum of investment management entities including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds, mutual funds, fund of funds, collateral debt obligation funds, foreign currency, structured products, mortgage-backed assets trading and securitization companies.

 

In addition to providing audit and attest services, he is widely regarded for his knowledge of the newly formed partnership exemption rules under Section 3C(1) and 3C(7) of Investment Companies Act of 1940, as well as other formation and accounting issues of investment partnerships—portfolio warehousing interest, capital calls, compensation interest, transaction structuring of foreign portfolios through blocker entities and setting up of complex incentive fee calculations. He is also adept at assisting clients with SEC examinations of auditors’ work papers.

 

Sal has a deep understanding of esoteric instruments such as asset-based debt, mortgage-based securities, distressed debt instruments, private equity/debt investments and venture capital investments. He has served alternative investment clients ranging from startups to $25 billion assets under management with a strong understanding of client reporting, compliance monitoring, management and incentive fees, investor capital transactions, portfolio valuation, performance measurement and trade reconciliation. Sal’s experience serving hedge and private equity funds permits him to bring to engagements a practical knowledge of investment strategies and valuation methodologies, due diligence and general and operational evaluations.

 

He is a frequent and respected speaker at industry events on topics such as valuation, small business investment companies, asset-backed lending and SEC examination focus. He has authored many current industry topics including Significance of Investing with Emerging Managers. He is a key resource to various illustrious trade and industry publications.

 

Sal is an honors graduate of University of Calcutta, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with a bachelor of commerce degree.

David DeMille

Dave has more than 16 years of experience as a tax advisor, primarily focusing on strategic income tax planning and compliance for closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Dave’s focus areas include venture capital/private equity, construction, manufacturing and restaurants. He also assists clients with multistate and international tax needs.

He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Dave is a graduate of Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, with an M.Acc. degree.

Murat Yasanliel

Murat has more than 20 years of experience providing tax services to hedge fund and private equity clients.  He has experience with tax planning, managing working relationships for fund clients, reviewing fee calculations, and creating, maintaining, and reviewing carried interest models.

Prior to joining BKD, he was a vice president in the hedge fund and private equity division of an international financial advisory firm.  In addition, he worked more than 10 years at another large international accounting and consulting firm with emphasis on partnership tax practice, including hedge and private equity funds tax panning, structuring, and compliance. Murat also has broad experience in international tax, FATCA, and CRS reporting.

He is a member of CTCPA.

Murat is magna cum laude graduate of University of Connecticut, Storrs, with a B.S. degree in finance, and a graduate of Pace University, New York, with a M.S. degree in taxation with a concentration in partnership tax and corporate reorganization.

Charles Allen

Charles is a member of BKD’s Technologies division and has more than 30 years of experience as a technology consultant, performing information systems needs assessments and analysis and providing system selections, implementations, installations, training, and support for a variety of industries, including manufacturing and distribution.

 

He implements, trains, and supports the Solver Corporate Performance Management solution and the Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP solution. Charles also prepares conceptual and detailed designs for integrating Microsoft products with proprietary systems. He has worked with many businesses in manufacturing, distribution, and health care and has implemented accounting and payroll systems for large companies. Charles is a frequent trainer and speaker at Dynamics GP User Group events.

 

Charles is a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certified in applications and installation on Dynamics GP. He has achieved the Dynamics Pro Advanced Certification for having two or more core credentials. Charles also received the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for his technical expertise and commitment to helping others in the technical communities. He also has achieved the Report Design Level II certification from Solver.

 

He is a 1987 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with a B.B.A. degree in accounting, and a 1988 graduate of The University of Mississippi with an M.B.A. degree.

Cindy Boyle

Cindy is the national practice leader of the cybersecurity and SOC teams and has more than 30 years of accounting experience. BKD Cyber provides a suite of cybersecurity solutions including PCI assessments, cybersecurity baseline assessments, advanced threat and vulnerability testing, social engineering, incident response planning, and awareness training for employees and boards of directors. Her team also performs all SOC engagements for the firm including SOC 1, 2, 3, SOC for Cybersecurity, and SOC for Supply Chain.

 

She and her team won the BKD EDGE Innovation of the Year Award the first two years after inception of the award. The first award was for their work on Access Analyzer, a tool to test segregation of duties in Dynamics GP and the second was for the BKD Red Team service line which is a digital attack simulation team exercise.

 

Cindy is a qualified American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) peer reviewer and part of the BKD peer review team where she performs large firm SOC reviews.

 

She is a member of AICPA. In addition to being a CPA, she is a Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®), Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA®) and a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Governance Fellow. She holds a CERT Certificate in cybersecurity oversight from Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.

 

Cindy currently serves on the board of directors for Delta Dental of Arkansas and is a member of the finance and investment committee, and compensation committee, and chairs the audit and risk committee. She is a member of the Founder’s Circle of Arkansas State University Women’s Business Leadership Center, providing scholarships and mentoring for women. She also serves as treasurer and is a founding member of the Leadership Foundation for Women, providing a forum for professional women to network and develop personally and professionally.

Lanny Morrow

With 20 years of experience at BKD, Lanny is the senior data scientist and technical lead in advanced data mining and digital forensics for BKD’s Forensics & Valuation Services division.

 

He uses data mining to identify patterns in financial, nonfinancial and textual data otherwise undetectable due to the data’s size and complexity. He also applies the principles of text mining to develop proprietary artificial intelligence capable of uncovering patterns and relationships in structured and textual data. This technology helps investigators assess the overall state of communications, identify hidden relationship networks among subjects in an investigation and trace the evolution of topics, concepts and emotional states over time. Lanny’s artificial intelligence technology allows BKD’s fraud investigators to rapidly identify relevant content in emails, documents, social media and other sources early in an investigation. In addition, Lanny specializes in extracting information from databases and has developed numerous proprietary data mining tools and programs using a variety of programming languages.

 

Lanny is an EnCase® Certified Examiner (EnCE®)—a designation awarded to digital forensics professionals. He collects, preserves and analyzes digital evidence and conducts investigations related to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, theft of intellectual property, public corruption, corporate espionage, fraud and white collar crimes, merger and acquisition due diligence, incident response and identity theft. He is a testifying expert in administrative, state and federal jurisdictions and has worked extensively for attorneys representing banking, health care, transportation, insurance, financial services, retail and manufacturing clients.

 

He performs statistical analysis related to litigation, investigations and regulatory compliance, designing appropriate sampling methodologies, determining valid strata, performing extrapolation and reviewing expert reports. His work in artificial intelligence and machine learning incorporates advanced statistics.

 

Lanny is a frequent speaker and writer on data mining and digital forensics, including contributions to university textbooks and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Fraud Magazine. He also is an adjunct professor in the Master’s in Data Science Program at Rockhurst University, Kansas City, Missouri.

Rand Gambrel

As a member of BKD’s Forensics & Valuation Services division, Rand provides business valuation services, forensic accounting, economic damage analysis, fraud auditing and bankruptcy and restructuring services, including serving as an expert witness. His more than 20 years of experience also includes performing audits and consulting services for large national and international companies while with an international accounting firm.

 

He performs valuations for transactions, restructurings, marital dissolutions and income tax-related purposes and provides economic analyses of damage resulting from business interruption and breach of contract. Rand helps identify source and use of funds through forensic accounting and provides financial consulting related to bankruptcy.

 

Rand also performs consulting services, serving both as an expert witness and a neutral “referee,” in a variety of post-acquisition and other dispute matters, including working capital adjustments, assumption of post-acquisition liabilities, undisclosed contingent liabilities and calculation of earn-out payments.

 

He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Colorado Society of CPAs, National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) who is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF).

Wyatt Jenkins, CPA

Wyatt manages corporate finance engagements, including mergers, acquisitions and strategic affiliations, company sales and divestitures, recapitalizations, management buyouts and succession planning. Wyatt was formerly a member of the BKD assurance team, where he provided financial and internal audit services to a variety of clients, including hospitals, health systems and financial institutions. He joined the corporate finance team in 2010.

 

He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Missouri Society of CPAs. In addition, Wyatt is a registered investment banking representative with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

 

Wyatt is an active member of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, formerly leading the Business After Hours Committee and serving on the advisory committee for the young professionals association, The Network. He has helped develop mentorship programs for college students, trained potential not-for-profit board members and coached young entrepreneurs.

Jim Jordon

Jim is a member of BKD’s Forensics & Valuation Services division and leads the Houston practice providing business valuation, transaction advisory and other advisory services. He has more than 20 years of experience providing business valuations for financial reporting, intellectual property, buy-sell agreements, federal tax and other regulatory purposes. Jim’s engagements have included assisting in both buy and sell-side advising, transaction structuring, debt capacity analysis and valuation studies.

 

He has been qualified as an expert witness involving valuation and merger and acquisition (M&A) issues, including testifying and the preparation of expert reports used in state, federal and The Hague International Court of Justice jurisdictions. His experience encompasses several industries, including energy and natural resources, chemicals, manufacturing and distribution and health care.

 

Before joining BKD in 2019, Jim was a managing director at another large international accounting firm where he worked in valuation and transaction advisory services. He also has prior experience as the managing editor of a nationally recognized business valuation publication and transaction database.

 

Jim is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), a member of the CFA Institute and a member of CFA Society of Houston where he is a past president and a current member of the advisory board. He is also a founding board member of the CFA Societies of Texas. Jim is also an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) and a member of the American Society of Appraisers.

 

He has made numerous presentations on valuation and M&A related topics to various business and professional organizations.

 

Jim is a 1994 graduate of Texas A&M University, College Station, with a B.B.A. degree in finance.

Corinna Creedon

Corinna is a managing director in the New York City office of BKD, where she leads the launch of the not-for-profit advisory services team. She has more than 20 years of experience as a finance executive, where she has provided interim- and outsourced-CFO services to a wide range of organizations. Known for her strong project management skills and her Unmatched Client Service®, Corinna is well regarded for her ability to quickly assess an organization’s needs and execute engagements in a timely manner within agreed budgets. She is a proven leader with a demonstrated track record of overseeing internal staff, working with external parties and communicating with C-suite stakeholders throughout her engagements. Clients rely upon her as a resource who can, with little ramp-up time, integrate into existing projects and objectives and help resolve obstacles while meeting milestones throughout.

 

Prior to joining BKD, she ran her own consulting practice, specializing in outsourced engagements, special projects/project management and SOX compliance. Corinna began her career at a large international accounting firm and then moved into the private sector and not-for-profit arena serving in finance executive roles.

 

Corinna proudly serves on the board of a local not-for-profit, The Book Fairies, and works to move forward their mission of enhancing literacy in underserved communities.

Melissa Pozniak

Melissa recently joined BKD as a tax partner. She specializes in partnership taxation and spends a portion of her time dedicated to serving as a national technical specialist in Sub-chapter K taxation. She also works extensively with private equity funds and is involved with tax compliance, due diligence and planning.

 

She began her career in 1997 with a large international accounting firm where she spent more than 18 years working with private equity funds, real estate entities and privately held companies and their owners.

 

Melissa actively serves many privately held clients and their owners. She has experience working with companies and their owners through many of their key life cycle events. She has been involved with tax compliance and planning, including structuring acquisitions and divestitures, business succession and wealth transfers.

 

She has given presentations on partnership and S corporation tax matters for Lorman Education Services and Tax Club of Cleveland.

 

Melissa is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

 

She is board member of City Year Cleveland, an organization dedicated to increasing the graduation rate of students in the Cleveland municipal schools. She also works with the Cleveland Zoological Society and Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Brian West

Brian has approximately 15 years of experience providing audit and consulting services to clients in multiple industries, including financial services, manufacturing, distribution and oil and gas services. He is regional industry leader for BKD National Manufacturing & Distribution Group in the South Region, a four-state area with 12 offices. In this role, Brian serves on the firmwide Manufacturing & Distribution Committee that sets the group’s strategic direction and determines key growth initiatives.

 

He also has a focus in private equity groups and private equity-backed companies, as well as U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings and compliance and has experience in bank IT operations.  

 

Brian is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Oklahoma Society of CPAs (OSCPA). He speaks annually at the Financial Services Symposium BKD produces with the Oklahoma Bankers Association and biannually at their joint Internal Audit Seminar. Brian also has helped lead a number of BKD/OBA CECL Workshops and spoken for the Financial Managers Society. He has been published by the Arkansas State Bank Department and OSCPA on Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation regulation and business combinations, which earned him the OSCPA’s 2016 Silver Pen Award for the second-highest-rated article featured in their bimonthly magazine.

 

In 2014, he was the employee recipient of the BKD PRIDE Award, which honors annually one employee and one partner firmwide who exemplify BKD’s PRIDE values—passion, respect, integrity, discipline and excellence.

Kevin Leggio

A member of BKD National Manufacturing & Distribution Group, Kevin has more than nine years of experience providing tax consulting and accounting services to a variety of industries with a focus on technology, energy, manufacturing and distribution. He frequently advises clients on structuring and formation of new businesses, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, general tax and business consulting, multistate tax planning and representation before the IRS. His practice concentrates on closely held businesses and their owners to help minimize tax liabilities and manage risk.

John Kmetz

John is the national leader for BKD’s private equity team. He has more than 20 years of experience performing financial statement audits of public and private companies in the manufacturing and distribution, service, retail and technology, and software industries. He is knowledgeable of enterprise resource planning systems and control environments and oversees a variety of attest and advisory engagements related to acquisitions, revenue recognition, and stock-based compensation accounting.

 

He works with multinational companies and before joining BKD, gained international experience while fulfilling a two-year assignment in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. John is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Missouri Society of CPAs, Financial Executives International, and Association for Corporate Growth.

 

He is on the board of advisors for KC Tech Council, is a member of the United Way of Greater Kansas City Tocqueville Society, and has recently served on the boards of Catholic Education Foundation and LaunchKC.

William E. Rasmussen IV, CPA

Bill provides tax consulting to manufacturers, contractors and financial institutions. He assists clients with general tax and business consulting, performs corporate and individual planning for closely held businesses and is experienced with multistate tax planning.

 

Bill has been involved with a variety of specialty projects, including employee stock option plans, mergers and acquisitions, federal and state tax incentives and reviews of corporate structure.

 

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
